Front Cover with CD Inducement

As my magazine had a CD as an inducement therefore I had to consider the positioning of it on the front cover. This was what the magazine looked like after adding it in...

CD COVERS

For my magazine inducements I had a free CD that had all the songs of the artists featured, this was the cover for my CD which I made in Photoshop. I used the original name for the magazine, imported a vinyl image from online and added in text.

Double Page - 3rd Draft and Making

I kept the same design for the double page spread as last time, I felt that I couldn't improve the design, so the making and designing stayed the same.

I started with a plain page with the same grey background as the other pages

I then added in dividing lines for each section of the magazine, using the line tool

 

I then added the pictures from copy and pasting them and re sizing to fit the space

The text was then added using the text button. The font was kept the same and
the colours were changed to fit the same house style

The headings from Fontspace were then added, using the magic wand too to
get rid of any background space - the title was the same as
the magazine logo

I ended by adding in page numbers and the logo at the bottom to show the ]
identity of the magazine throughout.

This image only changed from the text that was used in the headings of the stories, I thought that changing these allowed a more personal place for each artist and a more vibrant look to the page. The making of this page was exactly the same as previous.

Second Draft Changes

From my second draft, there are still things that can be improved, but some things are near completion;

Good Points:

• The double page looks really professional and is pretty much finished
• The front cover image has been updated with a new photoshoot, and looks more professional and fits with the theme a bit more
• The contents page is more ordered

Improvements to be made:

• The contents page needs to be neatened up, and the editing picture changed
• The front text of bands needs to stick with house style and of one style
• There needs to be a barcode on the front page
• There needs to be a page number on the contents page

Double Page Spread - 2nd Draft Making

1. Start with a blank page, coloured grey like the other pages

2. Add the dividing lines for the page to section off areas

3. Add in the text using the text button, and keeping the same font
and colours for the house style 

4. I then added in the images by copy and pasting, then using
the rotate tool to fit them in the text space

5. Add a red box, using the fade to allow the picture to be
seen in the background

6. Add in pull quote with bold white text to show through

7. Add additional title text using same fonts and colours 

8. Add main title from fontspace, using magic wand tool

9. Finish by adding page numbers, and magazine title at base to
identify the magazine

Start with grey toned background

Paste the image into photoshop, size to the page 

Add in the logo, using font-space to generate it and paste in,
then take background out using magic wand tool

Add in rectangle and text to title the magazine

Add in the text using the text button with same font
and colouring

Then add in the artist titles from font-space, again using the
magic wand tool, keeping all the same to give a house
style 

Then add in some shapes at angles to bring in the main stories
and competitions, coloured in the house style with fades so
the background image can be seen

Add in the text to surround these

Add in the bold font for the main story and remaining stories

Add in the final images like the bar code, inducements, all
taken from the internet

FRONT COVER IMAGE IDEAS

After my second photo shoot, I had a number of images that I could use for my front cover design. They all fitted with the Indie theme, but I needed one that would stand out from the others. 

1. This image was bold, and the artists face was 
center of the page

2. This was an image that didn't have the camera's focus 
and again was lost in the text on the page

3. This image was a good center image, but the artists face was 
disguised from the busy text and she wasn't the focus

4. This shoot looked more like cover for a fashion magazine than a 
music one, therefore this wasn't the right choice. 

5. This shot again also that looked very good didn't fit in with 
the text format that I wanted and the main face was 
distracted, therefore I needed to choose a new one. 

From the selection I chose number 1, because of the bold image and how it fitted with the text and met in the center of the page. It was bold and had enough room to fit text into the backgrounds. It fits the indie theme with the makeup shown, the bold colours and dark sunglasses (props).

Using Windows Photo Viewer

For the filters and lighting effects on my images I used the already installed program on my laptop that views photos. There is an edit section that allows filters to be used and played with, which is what I used to make my images.

Using Perfect 365

Perfect 365 is a photo editing app that allows faces to be edited with makeup and contour to make them look more appealing. After my first photo shoot, I needed to add in more makeup to my models - instead of doing it again I put the photos into Perfect 365 and added it on.
(This demonstration uses a model on the software)

This page looks at the skin of the model, looking at eye circles,  skin blemishes, brightening skin, softening skin and adding blusher. These allow the model to have a more airbrushed look to the face

 This feature slims the face, lifts cheeks and enhances nose, which makes the model look more 'model like' and fit that stereotype of a model











This brings in eyelashes to the model, by extending and filling them out, making them look like mascara had been applied











This edits the smile and teeth colour of the model (although this model doesn't need it) and adds in a brighter and more radiant lipstick











This adds in eye-shadow to the model, and all the different effects that can be used and the colours that can be chosen. The intensity of the shadow can also be chosen

 This page brightens the eyes, enlarges the pupils and highlights and defines the eyebrows. This makes it more easier to see more defined and structured brows on a model with that natural look.

 The eye colour of the model can be chosen too, so a blonde model can have blue eyes, making them more 'idyllic' in a modeling industry
